Cheryl Stephens is the principle of Plain Language Wizardry. She is a founder of Plain Language Association InterNational, International Plain Language Day, and the new PLAIN Canada.


For over 30 years, Stephens has been writing, speaking, and teaching about plain language and clear understandings. She helps clients become better communicators with her research-based advice. Her current mission is to raise the professional standards among plain language practitioners.

    Dr. Annetta Cheek, is the co-founder of the Center for Plain Language and U.S. PLAIN.


    Annetta is an anthropologist by training and she has a PhD from the University of Arizona. She worked for the US Government from 1980 until early 2007.


    Most of her Federal career was spent in the Department of Interior, writing and implementing regulations. From there she went to Vice President Al Gore’s National Partnership for Reinventing Government as his plain language lead. She finished her Federal career at the FAA, doing plain language projects for the Administrator.
