Melanie is the Clear Language Lab Content Director at Literacy Works, a Chicago-based non-profit. She works with mission-driven professionals to prioritize their audiences through clear communication. She trains hundreds of professionals annually and consults on projects across a wide variety of sectors including human services, early childhood, legal aid, and more. Previously, she spent nearly a decade working in adult education in Rogers Park, one of the city’s most diverse neighborhoods. That experience continues to drive her work at the Clear Language Lab in making information more accessible and understandable for all.


Melanie has an MA in linguistics from Northeastern Illinois University and a BA from the University of Michigan; she has a certificate in plain language from Simon Fraser University’s continuing studies program. She is also currently a Board Member of Chicago Books to Women in Prison. She lives on the NW side of Chicago.
