I’d like to see plain language theory in practice in order to help people.
Claudia Poblete Olmedo is currently researching the clarity of Chilean legislation. She is also a plain language advisor to public institutions. As a member of the Chilean Plain Language Network, she makes plain language proposals in other areas, as well. Claudia is a Board Member of PLAIN and a country representative of Clarity.
Claudia holds a Master’s Degree in Applied Linguistics from Pontificia Universidad CatĂłlica de ValparaĂso and a PhD in Spanish Philology (European Doctorate Mention) from Universidad AutĂłnoma de Barcelona (Spain). She’s worked as a professor of General Linguistics, Text drafting and comprehension, Spanish Phonetics and Phonology and she’s directed theses on Forensic phonetics. She teaches oral and written communication to lawyers at the Law School of Pontificia Universidad CatĂłlica de ValparaĂso and she’s now focusing on clear legal discourse and clarity standards for Spanish.
Plain Language clarity standards for Spanish: need and urgency

In this presentation, I’ll tell you why we should work on standards for each language, paying special attention to Spanish. I’ll also address the need and make a proposal for clarity standards in Spanish. On the other hand, I’ll show you how the definition of clarity in Spanish will mark the development of plain language networks in Spanish-speaking countries, especially in Chile.
